Habits

Whether you want to change the world, achieve a healthy lifestyle, or just establish a regular routine, you will need to start small. And more often than not, this involves forming habits.

The American Journal of Psychology defines a “habit, from the standpoint of psychology, [as] a more or less fixed way of thinking, willing, or feeling acquired through previous repetition of a mental experience.”

As of today, all of us have several habits that we perform throughout the day, deliberately or unconsciously. Unfortunately, we might even have bad ones that we are completely unaware of. So if we want to be successful in something, we need to identify what habits we need to develop and get started on them, one day at a time. On the other hand, it would also help if we can be more conscious of our day to day routine and find out what existing habits actually contribute to our success as well as the bad habits that we will need to unlearn as this might be one of the reasons why we are still unable to accomplish our goals (and this is the moment when I realize a bad habit that’s keeping me from shedding off those extra pounds >_< ).

There are several tools out there that can help in developing these habits. You can keep a list and post it somewhere that’s always visible to you (stick this on your fridge door or on your bedroom wall), set an alarm on your phone, or download an app that can also help you track your progress just like the one that I downloaded a few days ago. It’s called HabitBox. And for some inspiration, here is a video that was shared to me recently to help you get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sK3wJAxGfs

Have a great week ahead! 🙂
