Here’s a short Bible verse that I would like to share with you. I guess it simply means that being happy and satisfied doesn’t really come from pleasing yourself with all the material wealth and success that you can get. It actually comes from serving and loving other people. It’s about being selfless.

Proverbs 11:25 “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

Reflection Prayer #36

“Father, be close to our priests today as You were to the apostles of old. Pour your holiness upon them that they may always be true to You, priests after Your own heart. Amen.” – Didache

The Stillness Within

October 29

*taken from Jakarta Java Kini November 2010 issue

Today is the third day of my vacation in Indonesia. If I’m not mistaken, I think this is the second time this year that I’ve gone on a vacation without knowing what to expect. The first one was in Coron, but we had a clear itinerary then so I kind of knew what was going to happen.
This one was definitely unplanned. I had made an impulsive decision about 2 or 3 months ago to book a flight because my brother told me there was a promo fare. Well, I also knew that I had wanted to come here before my mom came home for good (because she was going to retire already) but I did not have definite plans yet. I just grabbed the opportunity and decided that there was still a lot of time to plan. Unfortunately, things became busy at work  and in my “extra-curricular” activities that I didn’t realize it was almost time for the vacation and I hadn’t even made any itinerary yet.
I was tired again. And as the departure day neared, all I could think of was the fact that I’d be away, mentally and physically, from all my responsibilities. I found myself being thankful for the fact that I wasn’t one of those people who had to take work home. Even if it seemed really cool to have a Smart phone and send work-related emails while abroad, it’s still the best feeling to be able to completely forget about responsibilities during a vacation.
Like most people, I would love to make the most out of my stay in a different place, especially if it’s a different country! But again, I was too tired to think about what I wanted to do once I got here in Indonesia. There was a place that I wanted to go to but I didn’t really think about how I would get there and how much I would spend. For me the plan was simple, “Pack your things and go.” You can say it was also because I was going to stay with my mom and so I wasn’t that worried.
Now that I’m on my third day, I can say that my vacation has been more of a “city trip”. Instead of being able to go to some province and visit cultural and historical places, we just stayed in the city. I wasn’t disappointed because it was still different from the usual thing I did everyday and of course, I had no responsibility to think about. I went to new places, met new people and learned more about myself in such a short period of time. I realized again that sometimes, it’s okay to keep still, relax and not make plans.
Most of the time, we’re so busy planning our day, our week and the rest of the months ahead. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that since we need to be organized anyway if we want something to happen in our life. But for the other times that we need to take a rest from our busy schedule, it’s okay to just relax and not think about the next step. While we’re stationary in one place, life will go on for everybody else. We just need to make sure that we don’t become too relaxed and let our life pass us by.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for keeping us safe during our flight. Thank you also for letting the process run smoothly for us in the airport. 🙂

Reflection Prayer #33

Dear Lord,

Life is so beautiful because of You. You are wonderful. How can I want more when I already have everything in You? Though it may not be enough, I just want to say a very very big THANK YOU. 🙂
